Welcome to National Park Information!
This website was created to provide you with information and links to one of North Americas greatest assets... our National Parks!
We provide you with an overview of the natural features, wildlife, history, popular activities, camping, and lodging that are unique to each major U.S. National Park. Have fun planning your next National Park vacation!
The diversity of landscapes, habitat and wildlife are truly amazing. You can observe large mammals like grizzly bears and wolves in Yellowstone National Park, rattlesnakes and hummingbirds at Big Bend, and alligators in the Florida Everglades.
The scenery and special geology make many of our National Parks a special place where you can just sit back and enjoy the view. Yosemite and Glacier National Parks are famous for the rugged mountains and spectacular waterfalls. Sequoia Park has the huge Sequoia trees... big enough to drive a car through! Of course the Grand Canyon, Arches, Zion and Big Bend National Parks provide the spectacular canyons, cliffs and rock formations of the southwest deserts. Several of our National Parks are located where the land meets the oceans. These parks include Olympic National Park, Acadia and Everglades National Park.
The history of our National Parks is as diverse as the wildlife and scenery. Yellowstone was the first National Park to be established and was first managed by the Army. The railroad empire was very involved with the development of Glacier National Park and the building of the hotels and backcountry chalets. Shenandoah National Park was the scene of many Civil War battles and cattle ranchers of Wyoming settled in the valley near Grand Teton National Park.
National Parks vacations have become more and more popular in recent years. Many people are taking advantage of the spectacular scenery, hiking, camping, and other outdoor activities that are available in our National Parks. Planning a vaction to our National Parks is a fun and exciting adventure. There are so many National Parks to visit and things to do, it can be difficult to know where to start!
You do not need to make reservations to enter the National Parks. If you are planning on staying overnight, you will need to make reservations for lodging inside or outside the National Park. Millions of people visit the National Parks, especially between Memorial Day and Labor Day, so planning ahead and getting National Park reservations for lodging, popular ranger-guided hikes, and campgrounds is a good idea.
Many people head to our National Parks for the recreational activities which include rock climbing, rafting, bird watching, wildlife viewing, fishing, hiking, canoeing, and of course camping! Many of the parks like Glacier, Yellowstone, Rocky Mountain and Yosemite are famous for the backpacking and backcountry camping. The mountain weather makes the experience a challenge and it isn't uncommon to experience a snowstorm during every month of the year. Campgrounds in the parks can fill up early and are on a first-come-first-served basis. There is usually ample additional camping outside the parks if you get there too late.
The National Parks also offer some very unique lodging experiences. Glacier National Park has the famous backcountry chalets (Granite Park and Sperry). Yellowstone has the Yellowstone Inn at Old Faithful as well as numerous small quaint cabins for rent.
Lodging adjacent to the parks usually consists of hotels and rental cabins. One of the most famous is The Stanley Hotel in Estes Park, adjacent to Rocky Mountain National Park. Remember the movie "The Shining"? It was filmed at The Stanley Hotel and staying there will provide you with memories that will last a lifetime!
Many of the National Parks have webcams located throughout the park. These webcams give you an opportunity to look at the scenery, see what the weather is like, or just to enjoy the park from the comfort of your home while you plan your next vacation.
